A journey through the world’s culinary capitals and Naples’ prominent role
The British magazine Time Out recently published the ranking of the 20 best food cities in the world for 2025, based on a survey involving thousands of residents from different metropolises. This study evaluated the local food scene considering factors such as quality, affordability, creativity, and tradition. In 2024, Naples secured first place, but in the latest ranking, it has dropped to 19th place, while still remaining Italy’s only representative.
At the top of the list for 2025 is New Orleans, USA, recognized for its rich culinary history influenced by French, Spanish, and Vietnamese traditions. The city is famous for its seafood and vibrant jazz scene. In second place is Bangkok, praised for its affordable yet diverse street food scene, offering refined dishes at low prices. Third place goes to Medellín, Colombia, known for traditional markets such as La Placita de Flórez, where visitors can taste exotic fruits like cherimoya and gulupa.
Naples: the only italian city in the ranking
Despite dropping from first to 19th place compared to last year, Naples continues to be recognized for its culinary excellence. The city is celebrated for its rich gastronomic tradition, with Pizza Margherita as its undisputed symbol.
A special mention goes to the “pizza a portafoglio”, a folded pizza served as street food, which offers a unique culinary experience to anyone visiting the city. Naples’ presence in this ranking highlights the significance of local cuisine and culinary traditions in shaping a city’s cultural identity. Despite growing global competition, Naples’ ability to keep its culinary heritage alive allows it to remain a must-visit destination for food lovers.
