Villa Crespi, the renowned restaurant helmed by Chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo, has been crowned “Best Hotel Restaurant in Italy” for 2024 by the prestigious 50 Top Italy guide. Located in Orta San Giulio, on the shores of the picturesque Lake Orta, this establishment, awarded three Michelin stars in 2022, offers a one-of-a-kind experience that merges culinary excellence with top-tier hospitality, celebrating Italian culture.
A historic residence with unmistakable charm
Villa Crespi is housed in an elegant historic residence with Moorish-style architecture, built in 1879 at the behest of entrepreneur Cristoforo Benigno Crespi. The property, adorned with intricate Arabesque decorations and exuding an atmosphere of “A Thousand and One Nights,” is surrounded by lush gardens overlooking the lake, offering breathtaking views. Today, Villa Crespi serves not only as a three-star Michelin restaurant but also as a luxury hotel affiliated with Relais & Châteaux, featuring rooms and suites that provide exclusive comfort.
Cannavacciuolo’s cuisine: a fusion of tradition and innovation
The restaurant is the realm of Antonino Cannavacciuolo, one of Italy’s most acclaimed chefs and a judge on MasterChef Italia, who has led the kitchen at Villa Crespi since 1999 alongside his wife, Cinzia. Cannavacciuolo’s culinary philosophy is rooted in a balance between the traditions of his native Campania and the flavors of Piedmont, inspired by the region that hosts him. His most famous dishes, such as lemon risotto with shrimp and caper powder, showcase his ability to innovate while staying true to the roots of Italian cuisine. Among his signature creations is the “Tonno Vitellato” (Veal-Style Tuna).
Originally from Vico Equense in Naples province, Cannavacciuolo began his training in prestigious Italian and European restaurants, honing his skills in culinary techniques and hospitality management. Beyond being a multi-starred chef, Cannavacciuolo is a beloved television personality thanks to shows like MasterChef Italia and Cucine da Incubo (Italian Kitchen Nightmares). His empathetic personality and his rigorous yet warm approach to cooking have made him a prominent ambassador of Italian excellence.
A temple of gastronomy and hospitality
Villa Crespi has been celebrated not only for the exceptional quality of its cuisine but also for the comprehensive experience it offers its guests. The hotel’s rooms blend classic elegance with modern comfort, while the highly trained staff ensures impeccable service. This recognition adds to a long list of accolades, including earning its third Michelin star in November 2022, cementing Villa Crespi’s place among the world’s elite dining establishments.
