Fiat 500 was launched on July 4th, 1958, together with its Spiaggina special edition. On the 60th anniversary of that launch, Garage Italia by Lapo Elkann presented a new special edition, Spiaggina ’58, a true tribute to the Dolce Vita years with the release limited to 1,958 examples, symbolizing the year of the original Spiaggina’s launch.
Spiaggina 58 is a modernized beach-ready configuration of the iconic model, and Garage Italia realized it with the technical and engineering contribution of Italian design firm Pininfarina. The bodywork of a 500C model has been re-shaped with the addition of retro elements such as the 60s looking wheels, and the two-tone vibe flaunting the ‘Blue Volare’ and ‘Perla White’ summer hues both for the exterior and interior.
Ready for the beach, not only it is completely roofless, it also eliminates its rear seating in favor of beach-tailored open top and back with a compartment that houses a built-in shower to wash away any sand or dirt after a beach session. Moreover, the front seat has been replaced with a custom-made small bench that recalls the typical car design of the ‘60s. On the modern front, the infotainment system sports a 7″ HD Live touchscreen radio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mirroring plus TomTom satellite navigation. In addition, chrome-plated finishing touches are utilized for the car door handles, rear-view mirrors and hubcaps of the wheels to shine brightly in under the sun.
Lapo Elkann, President and Creative Director of Garage Italia, said about Fiat 500: “We have been able to design a multitude of unique versions that confirmed the versatility and great relevance of this vehicle. 11 years have passed since July 4th, 2007, the day of its rebirth, and today, with Garage Italia, I want to celebrate and renew another beautiful Italian icon, designing with my Centro Stile the Spiaggina by Garage Italia, realized with the precious support of Fiat and Pininfarina. I am proud to have done it in Italy, with Italian companies that promote our country all over the world.”
