In the suggestive Visarno Arena, within the Parco delle Cascine, the largest green area of the city, Florence presents some of the greatest names of international rock music.
The first great event of the summer is ‘Florence Rocks’, June 23-25. The festival opens with the Aerosmith – on their “farewell” tour of Europe ‘Aero-Vederci Baby!’ -, Placebo, and Deaf Havana. On June 24, the voice and soul of Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, will appear for the first time in Italy as soloist, but also Cranberries and Glen Hansard will be playing on the same date. For the conclusion of the event, on June 25, on the program there is an explosive metal evening with the performances of the System of a Down – the band founded in 1995 by four descendants of the Armenian survivors of the 1915 genocide, which is a recurring theme in their songs – and Prophets of Rage – the super-group consisting of the members of Rage Against The Machine, Cypress Hill and Public Enemy, which released its first EP album, ‘The Party’s Over,’ in August 2016.
The second important musical event is ‘Florence Summer Festival’, July 8-18. The big names in this case start with the English indie band ‘The XX’ that will perform on July 8 a concert of their ‘I See You Tour’. On July 11, the Arena will dance with Jamiroquai, in Florence with their only Italian date this year, while the Canadian Arcade Fire will close the festival on July 18.
