Beyond the myth of Kahlo

Beyond the myth of Kahlo

‘Frida. Beyond the Myth’ is the title of the large retrospective curated by Diego Sileo that, until June 3rd, will be hosted  by the MUDEC (Museum of Cultures) of Milan to celebrates the most famous and acclaimed Mexican woman artist, Frida Kahlo (1907-1954).

An opportunity to finally see in a single exhibition, after 15 years, all the works from the Museo Dolores Olmedo of Mexico City and the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection, two of the most important and extensive Kahlo collections in the world, on top of the masterpieces lent by important international museums, many of which have never been on exposition in Italy before.

The retrospective includes oils, drawings, watercolors, letters, and photographs, and is made unique compared to all the exhibitions so far proposed in recent years, also thanks to the Casa Azul Archive, discovered in 2007 and thoroughly studied by curator Sileo. Moreover, Kahlo’s Mexico will be explored and illustrated, with the ‘voice’ of the MUDEC, during the numerous conferences and events that are scheduled throughout the period of the exhibition.

The exhibition points out that Kahlo still holds many secrets, revealing that as well as expressing herself dramatically in her paintings, she was also extremely witty and ironical, and brought a sensuality to still lives, like nobody else.
