‘The hunter’ at Canneséries

The fiction ‘The hunter‘ (original title ‘Il cacciatore’), currently broadcast by Rai2 and directed by Davide Marengo with Stefano Lodovichi, represents Italy at Canneséries, the first edition of the international TV series festival underway at the Palais des Festival. The jury, chaired by Harlan Coben, will assign the awards to the best series, interpretation, screenplay, performance, music on today, April 11th, among the 10 series is in competition from Mexico, South Korea, Israel, United States, Norway, Spain, Germany, Belgium, and, of course, Italy.

A great satisfaction for the authors and performers of the series inspired by the true story of magistrate Alfonso Sabella who told his battles against the Sicilian mafia in the early 90s in his book ‘Cacciatore di mafiosi’. Director Davide Marengo said: “The mafia is a very popular genre in TV series but ‘The hunter’ tells real stories and talks about new topics, the courage of some magistrates who led to the arrest of bosses like Leoluca Bagarella and Giovanni Brusca. It is a story of successes, but also the cost to reach them: going around with the escort, the hardships and difficulties of the family, and even the investigations that became obsessions. We chose to put aside the charm of evil to tell the good.”

The fiction consists of 12 episodes but Marengo assures that “there are still many things to tell, and it would be nice to bring the team together again to work on the second season.” Meanwhile, authors and directors enjoy Cannes awaiting tonight’s verdict.
