Michelin Guide: a rain of stars on Italian restaurants

Massimo Bottura

The 64th edition of the Micheline Guide Italy has been presented at the Paganini auditorium in Parma, and it turned out to be a very starry night. With 1 new Three Star and 29 new One Star restaurants, Italy can now boast 367 starred restaurants for a total of 426 stars. On top of this the Michelin Guide Italy 2019 also includes 157 Bib Gourmand eateries.

Mauro Uliassi

The newest Three Star is Catia and Mauro Uliassi’s eponymous restaurant in Senigallia (Ancona). The brothers’ technique and technology paired with their coastal traditions succeeded in bringing the first ever Three Star recognition to the Italian east coast. The addition of Uliassi to the 2019 selection brings the total number of three-starred restaurants to 10: ‘Piazza Duomo’ in Alba (Cuneo), ‘Da Vittorio’ in Brusaporto (Bergamo), ‘St. Hubertus’ in San Cassiano (Bolzano), ‘Le Calandre’ in Rubano (Padua), ‘Dal Pescatore’ in Canneto Sull’Ogio (Mantua), ‘Enoteca Pinchiorri’ in Florence, ‘La Pergola’ in Rome, ‘Reale’ in Castel di Sangro (L’Aquila), and Massimo Bottura’s famed ‘Osteria Francescana’ in Modena.

Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the MICHELIN Guides, commented: “This year, the 367 addresses distinguished by our teams of inspectors make a vibrant tribute to the richness and regional diversity of Italian gastronomy, which is a gastronomy of products, terroirs, and authenticity,” says. “It is also always fascinating to note how much the chefs and artisans at the head of these restaurants are living and evolving the Italian culinary scene, oscillating between respect for tradition and gourmet innovation.”
