TripAdvisor has revealed its most booked attractions ranking for 2018, which was produced following analysis of the travel site’s 140,000 bookable tours and activities. According to the great online community of travelers from all over the world, the attraction that has been booked the most in the past year is the Colosseum in Rome, followed by another great Roman attraction the Vatican Museum, and the Statue of Liberty in New York in the third position. The tenth most booked attraction is also Italian, the Canal Grande in Venice.
Italy continues to exert an intense fascination for those who travel and love beautiful things, and the Eternal City is always in the hearts of travelers from all over the world. So much so that the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums are the two most popular attractions in the world. The former gladiator arena was built to hold more than 50,000 spectators and is almost 2,000 years old, but no one seems to be tired of it. On the other hand the Vatican Museums harbor a huge collection of art amassed by popes over hundreds of years – including significant examples of Roman sculpture and Renaissance art – by gallery space, it’s the fifth-largest art museum in the world.
As far as the Italian ranking of most booked attractions is concerned, Tuscany has four of the Top10– the Accademia Gallery (fifth) and the Uffizi (sixth) in Florence, the Cathedral of Siena (seventh) and the Tower of Pisa (eighth) – follow by Veneto and Lazio with two attractions each: the Grand Canal (third) and the San Marco Basilica (ninth) in Venice, and the Colosseum (first) and the Vatican Museums in Rome. The Archaeological Park of Pompei (fourth) and Il Cenacolo di Milano (tenth) complete the all-Italian ranking.
