On January 4, 2019, the highly appreciated Spanish series ‘Money Heist‘ – original title: ‘La Casa de Papel‘ – arrived in Florence to shoot different scenes of the new season. The heist TV series created by Álex Pina revolves around a long-prepared, multiple-day assault on the Royal Mint of Spain and, since it was added to Netflix’s streaming site it has gained a huge global audience becoming the most watched non-English series ever on the media platform.
The new season, which will be released by Netflix in 2019, is often referred to as the third but, actually, it is only the second. The first season came in two distinct parts and this generated the misunderstanding that led many to erroneously consider the second part of the first season as the second season.
The Netflix production landed in Italy and it will have the historic center of the Tuscan capital as a backdrop to some of the events that will unfold in the story of the Professor and the other characters of the Spanish production.
The two locations involved in the filming are Piazza del Duomo – where one morning the Professor meets Berlin – and Piazzale Michelangelo where scenes, the content of which remains top secret, will be shot in the afternoon. Florence’s Mayor Dario Nardella took to Tweeter to comment on the event welcoming the whole ‘Money Heist’ troupe to the city of Dante writing: “Welcome to Florence to the cast the successful TV series La Casa de Papel. I invite the Professor & C. to visit the Tower of the Mint: it is not the Mint of Madrid, but here in the ‘300 the florin was coined and today it offers a beautiful view of the city.”
