The new Ferrari F8 Tributo unveiled ahead of the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show is a new mid-engined V8 supercar designed to supersede the 488 GTB. It shares its aluminum chassis and powertrain with previous 488 models, but it is considered a substantial update.

The flat-plane crank 3902cc twin-turbocharged V8 has received a subtle power and torque boost to match the 488 Pista, topping out at 711bhp at 8000rpm, with 568lb ft of torque available from 3250rpm. Translated into performance means a 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds, 0-124mph in 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 211mph. A volcanic exuberance, managed by a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In addition, specific lightening interventions have allowed reducing the dry weight of 40 kg compared to the 488 GTB, for a total of 1,330 kg, with a caveat applied that the figure is only reached when ‘lightweight options are fitted’.ferrari f8 tributo italy italia car supercar speed red motor geneva ginevra racing

The design by the in-house at Ferrari Centro Stile is immediately recognizable as modern Ferrari. However, it features appreciable gains that make its aerodynamics is 10% more efficient than the one of the 488 GTB. Many are the tributes – hence the name – to the most famous Ferrari of the past, such as the Lexan rear screen incorporating slip vents, a reinterpretation of the F40, and the double tail light, like those of the 308 GTB and later models. Nevertheless, the new horizontal LED headlights make a change from previous V8 models, which have used upright lighting units since the 458 Italia.

To see it live, it will be necessary to wait for the Geneva Motor Show – March 7-17 -, which will be the occasion for the first public presentation of the last of the Italian supercars.
