The 2019 edition of the iconic Rolex Giraglia regatta will take off, as per tradition from Saremo to Saint Tropez, tonight with the starting signal of the 60-mile-long race given at midnight after sailors and spectators will have enjoyed the fireworks display organized for them.
Yesterday the event started with an evening dedicated to conservation in the sailing village in front of the ‘Yacht Club Sanremo’ with a talk of marine biologist Sabina Airoldi of the Tethys Institute – for which she is responsible for the CSR project, also known as Cetacean Sanctuary, the very area where the regatta takes place – and the screening of films illustrating the problems of the marine environment and the mysteries of the Sanctuary.
Today instead the ‘Yacht Club Sanremo‘ is buzzing with participating crews registering before the skippers’ briefing that will take place at 6.00 pm, followed by the Oyster Party for all the participants in the regatta. The party will be concluded by the fireworks display and the take-off of the regatta.
The Sanremo Yacht Club has been organizing the Sanremo – Saint Tropez coastal regatta for ten years and Beppe Zaoli, President of the Yacht Club Sanremo, commented: “We are happy to celebrate this year the tenth anniversary of the Sanremo-Saint Tropez stage, which, over the years, has received more and more acclaim, so as to reach and exceed 100 members. The participants showed to appreciate the social events organized for them by the Sanremo Yacht Club. It is a success achieved thanks to the friendship and collaboration with the Italian Yacht Club, the Yacht Club de Monaco, and the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez, as well as of course the fundamental support of Rolex.”
