Sotheby’s Italian Traveling Exhibition

As a preview of the wonders that will be auctioned in London during the Frieze Week at the beginning of October, Sotheby’s organized an Italian Traveling Exhibition dedicated to the collectors that are currently in the Bel Paese. Iconic works of Italian and international masters are today on show at Palazzo Il Verrua in Turin, after having traveled from Rome where they were exhibited at Palazzo Altieri, and before going to delight the visitors of Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan on September 23 and 24.

Among the masterpieces that Sotheby’s is taking on tour and then to be auctioned there is the Alberto Burri’s ‘Rosso Plastica’ that appeared on the cover of the 1963 Brandi-Rubiu catalog and that is now presented with an estimate between 1.4 and 1.8 million pounds. Also, arriving from the United States where they were bought in 2005, ‘Housing Developed‘ (1960) by Salvatore Scarpitta return to Europe with an estimate between 1.5 and 2 million pounds. Lucio Fontana’s ‘Il Concetto Spaziale’ with five cuts on blue, created in 1966, returns to Europe after  the New York exhibition of the Metropolitan Museum dedicated to the master of Spatialism – estimate 900,000 to 1.3 million pounds.

In the pre-auction exhibition there are also on show two works by Piero Manzoni‘s both titled ‘Achrome‘ and executed in 1962: the first, with an estimate between 700,000 and 1,000,000 pounds, is one of Manzoni’s only 20 works made of pebbles and kaolin on canvas; the other is a set of two packages already exhibited in London (TATE Gallery), Paris (Museum of Modern Art), and Turin (Castello di Rivoli), which are estimated between 1,000,000 and 1,500,000 pounds.
