The CTBUH listed Boeri’s skyscraper among ‘The 50 Most Influential Tall Buildings of the Last 50 Years’

The same year it was built, 2014, it won the ‘International Highrise Award’, which celebrates the most beautiful and innovative tall buildings. In 2015, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Awards Jury selected it as the overall ‘2015 Best Tall Building Worldwide’.

Now, the same institution listed Boeri’s Bosco Verticale in Milan as one of the ‘The 50 Most Influential Tall Buildings of the Last 50 Years’.

This is how the awarding body motivated its decision: “T_he twin residential towers gained worldwide attention when completed, due to their supporting to 480 large trees, 250 small trees, 11,000 groundcover plants and 5,000 shrubs, which is equivalent to an entire hectare of forest cover. The foliage acts to improve air quality by filtering out dust and sequestering carbon, while also mitigating the urban heat island effect and reducing noise pollution, showcasing the potential of tall buildings to effect positive environmental change in cities._”

Stefano Boeri, who designed Bosco Verticale with Gianandrea Barreca and Giovanni La Varra, commented: “This recognition is first and foremost an award to experimentation in architecture. Secondly, it rewards the idea that living nature can become an essential component of architecture and forests, in the future, an essential component of our cities.”

“This further recognition to Porta Nuova and Bosco Verticale reaffirms the world-wide reputation of Italian architecture through innovative projects that include new challenges in building sustainability.” These the words with which Manfredi Catella, Founder and CEO of Coima, which built and manages Bosco Verticale, welcomed the CTBUH’s decision.
