Until November 27th, the 29th edition of the international exhibition POPs UP in two former churches
Miniartextil is an annual international exhibition of contemporary art showing the best in textile art. It aims is to advance and spread awareness of this art sector and its revolutionary approach to the textile heritage and its materials. For its 29th edition, it returned to Como – where it started in 1991 – and it will be open until November 17th, in two former churches, San Francesco, and San Pietro. The organizers, moved by the desire to open themselves up to unique and particular artistic inspirations, titled this edition POP UP and divided it into two sections, MAXI and MINI.
For MAXI, an international jury selected 54 mini-textiles works out of over 300 requests to participate.
In addition to these, the former Church of San Francesco hosts other important artists. Manuel Ameztoy, one of the most important Argentine artists, with “Flying Carpet”; the pure rayon of the Japanese master Akio Hamatani with “Sky”; Hannah Quinlivan with “Polyrhythm”; Susan White with “Flag IV”; Yasuaki Onishi with “Edge of Space”; Ashley V. Blalock’s massive scale doilies; Gianni Nieddu with “Police”; Franca Sonnino with “Mosaic”; the Japanese Naoe Okamoto with “Far far away”; and Takaaki Tanaka with “Scenery of Trees”.For the MINI section, the main name of the entire exhibition is SHOPLIFTER/Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir. Her colored synthetic fiber stalactites, made with hair that is most commonly used in the creation of wigs, embrace and capture the public.
Moreover, from October 18th, 30 shops in the city center will host each a piece of textile art. A widespread exhibition that is part of the Shopping Pop Up Street project organized with the Departments of Culture and Commerce and the Distretto Unico del Commercio of the Municipality of Como.
