The new Italian series produced by Lux Vide for Sky Italia premiered at Mipcom in Cannes
Patrick Dempsey (‘Grey’s Anatomy’) and Alessandro Borghi (‘Suburra’) arrived in Cannes for the premiere of ‘Devils‘ that took place at Mipcom. The new financial-world thriller TV-series, titled ‘Devils’ and entirely filmed in Rome, is an Italian production with a truly international feel. Although shot in English, Lux Vide produced if for Sky Italia bringing together characters and actors from different parts of the world.
Based on the best-selling novel by Italian trader Guido Maria Brera, the ten-part series is set in London. In the office of a major U.S. bank, CEO Dominic Morgan (Dempsey) introduces Massimo Ruggero (Borghi) to the world of finance. As a mentor, he welcomes him as Head of Trading in the bank he runs. When Ruggero gets involved in an intercontinental financial war, he has to choose whether to side with Morgan or fight him.
For Borghi, joining the cast of ‘Devils‘ was both exciting and daunting. The Italian actor interpreted his first English-speaking role and had to learn plenty of financial slang. He spent time in London to master his British accent, listened to Ted talks, and learned a lot from Brera. “I had to learn about this world, I didn’t know anything about it, the terminology of the finance,” said Borghi.
The Italian actor said he watched a lot of movies about finance like “Margin Call,” “Wolf of Wall Street,” and noted that “Devils” is “completely different.”
“We show different sides (…) and we have a lot to tell about the relationships between the characters. They have a lot of money, but also a lot of (personal) problems,” said Borghi.
For Dempsey, the diverse cast of ‘Devils’, which includes Laia Costa and Malachi Kirby, is “a reflection of the world.” He said: “I learn when I travel and I like working internationally,” Adding that the downside of filming in Italy was the fact that the food is so good that he had to restrain himself from eating.
