Sparkling, white, red, rosé, sweet, for each category there is a wine that has no competitors
On October 24th, the ‘Guida Oro I Vini di Veronelli 2020‘ will present its selection of best Italian wines. The ‘Golden Guide – Veronelli’ is one of the most prestigious and recognized Italian guides, a reference point for professionals and enthusiasts. A rigorous and rational region-by-region guide to the best vinegrowers and winemakers in Italy. For each, it describes the history, the soil, the climate, and the people of the place where the wines are made. The authors include as much detail as possible, with great precision and critical remarks.

One of the innovations of this edition is the ‘Three Gold Stars’ symbol that identifies wine with ratings higher than 94 points. Out of 16,766 wines reviewed, only 395 received this award.
And it will be possible to know their names only on the 24th. But we know that, in the regional comparison, Veneto ranks third for the number of ‘Golden-Starred’ wines, after Piedmont and Tuscany. During the Milan Wine Week, the non-profit association that draws up the guide also revealed the winners of each category. The ‘Best tastings’ are the label with the highest score in the sparkling, white, red, rosé, and sweet categories. Here they are:
– White wine: Alto Adige Terlaner I Grande Cuvée 2016 – Cantina Terlano (Alto-Adige) –
It is a perfect synthesis of the Terlano style. This wine brings together the excellence of the finest vines and the finest crus of the Alto Adige cellar. Rich nose and exceptional persistence, with a long and mineral finish.
– Sparkling wine: Franciacorta Extra Brut Rosé Riserva Annamaria Clementi 2009 – Ca ’del Bosco (Lombardy) – The Veronelli Guide confirms it as the best Italian sparkling wine for the third year running. One gram of sugar per liter, nine years of fermentation in the bottle and all the elegant essentiality of pure Pinot Noir.
– Red wine: Masseto Toscana 2016 – Tenuta Masseto (Tuscany) – Masseto, 100% Merlot obtained from a single six-hectare vineyard, is always present among the great international labels. It is also the first Italian to obtain 100 points from the American critic Robert Parker for two years in a row.
– Rosé wine: Valtènesi Riviera del Garda Classico Chiaretto Molmenti 2016 – Costaripa (Lombardy) – Groppello, Marzemino, Sangiovese, Barbera. Its freshness is very pleasant, and the flavor is always in harmony with the softer notes of white flowers and small red fruits. The wine is dedicated to Pompeo Gherardo Molmenti, who, in 1896 created the Chiaretto di Moniga.
– Sweet wine (or ‘da meditazione’)****: Vernaccia di Oristano Antico Gregori 1976 – Contini Attilio (Sardinia) – An exclusive wine and undoubtedly one of the most representative labels of Sardinian enology. This wine is made by assembling the best historical vintages that the winery keeps in oak barrels for decades.
