In 2020, Milan will host World Cities Culture Summit

October 28-30, 2020, city leaders and top cultural experts will gather in the Lombard capital

Milan is famous for its diverse population, cultural vibrancy and its role as a leading city for cultural workers. For this reason, it will host the 2020 World Cities Culture Summit. Like every year city leaders and top cultural experts from 38 cities will gather together at the summit to share best practices. The announcement arrived on the final day of this year’s international summit in Lisbon.

The one in Milan will be the 9th World Cities Culture Summit. Previous events have been held in Lisbon, San Francisco, Seoul, Moscow, Amsterdam, Istanbul, and London.

Filippo del Corno, Deputy Mayor for Culture of the City of Milan said: “Hosting the World Cities Culture Summit 2020 is the greatest acknowledgment of a long- term process to become a capital city of culture. Thanks to the boost given by Expo 2015, Milan has placed culture and creativity at the heart of its development. During the Summit, the city will become the hub of a political debate about the key role culture can play to face the greatest challenges of our time: climate change, social inclusion, creative workforce, center vs suburbs in our cities. All these issues will be addressed by city leaders coming from all around the globe together in Milan on October 28-30 2020. We are really looking forward to hosting them in the city.”

Justine Simons OBE, London’s Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, and Chair of the World Cities Culture Forum said: “I’m delighted that Milan will be the next host of our World Cities Culture Summit. Culture and creativity are vital to the success of our cities, as they drive our economies, inspire young people and transform lives. The summit provides a great opportunity to share best practices across the world. And, as a global cultural capital at the forefront of the fashion and design industries, Milan will be a truly inspiring host for us all.”
