Turin will stage the 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League finals

The Juventus’ home stadium is getting ready to host the first final of the new UWCL format

The UEFA Executive Committee announced the decisions at its meeting in Amsterdam: Turin‘s Allianz Stadium will host the 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) final. It will be the conclusions of the first edition under the new format beginning in 2021/22, which includes a group stage among several other innovations.

Already in 2016, the UWCL final took place in Italy. Then, Reggio Emilia‘s Stadio Città del Tricolore was the venue for the 2016 decider between Lyon and Wolfsburg.

### However, the one in Turin will be the first final of the new version of the competition.

The 2021/22 edition of the Women’s Champions League will see a change in the format of the tournament, which will include a 16-team group stage, before the elimination rounds. These will culminate in the final. For that crucial game, the Allianz Stadium will, once again, open its doors to a grand event in women’s football. In March 2019, it welcomed a crowd of 39,027 that watched a league match between Juventus and Fiorentina. The record attendance  for a women’s football match in Italy, which that contributed to change the perception of women’s football in the country.
