‘Italy called’, Italians answer

An 18-hour online marathon to boost the country resilience through its art, culture, and entertainment

Italy’s national anthem, ‘Fratelli d’Italia’, is inspired by brotherhood and a whole lot of patriotism. And in the current health crisis, the country turns to these values to boost its resilience. Its chorus says ‘L’Italia chiamò‘ (Italy called) and this is also the title of the greatest live streaming of all time. It is broadcast today, March 13th, on the YouTube channel of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (Mibact) from 6 am to midnight.

This online marathon aims to help change the narrative of these difficult times and show the world the country’s ability to react. It wants to show that Italians can count on their resourcefulness making the most of the time that they have to spend at home. Over 100 protagonists of the Italy of entertainment, culture, science, economy, information, and innovation will turn it into an opportunity to do something extraordinary. ‘L’Italia Chiamò‘ brings in each house cultural festivals, theatrical productions, concerts, and exhibitions suspended by the measures taken to fight the pandemic. Artists stream their performances, interviews, songs, and poems, directly from their artists’ homes.

It is also an opportunity to follow the president of Scuderie del Quirinale, Mario De Simoni, as he tells the behind the scenes of Raphael’s great exhibition. The Director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, Massimo Osanna, holds a lesson together with the restorer Antonio Forcellino, who is working in the Chigi Chapel of the Church of Santa Maria della Pace in Rome, to restore the Sibyls of Raphael. While, Eike Schmidt, director of the Uffizi Gallery, walks the viewers through the rooms dedicated to Raffaello and Michelangelo. And director Christian Greco takes them to discover the secrets of the Egyptian Museum of Turin.
It is also the opportunity to promote the fundraising to support the efforts of doctors, nurses, and all employees of the Italian national health system. This will also contribute to the creation of new workstations in intensive care units throughout Italy.
