Campari: from spirits to hand sanitizer for healthcare workers

The alcohol intended for Aperol, SKYY and Wild Turkey is used to help hospitals in Lombardy

Campari Group, founded in Milan in 1860, is the sixth-largest player worldwide in the premium spirits industry. The headquarter is still in the Lombard capital, but today the Group owns plants in 21 countries. And its distribution network reaches over 190 nations around the world. It has a portfolio of over 50 premium and super premium-brands including Aperol, Appleton Estate, Campari, SKYY, Wild Turkey, and Grand Marnier. For all of them, an important raw material is pure alcohol, essential for the production of sanitizers.

Thus, Campari Group joined forces with another Milanese group leader in the production of cosmetic products, Intercos. Together they produce hydro-alcoholic hand sanitizer gel for Lombardy hospitals.

The alcohol donated by Campari Group has been transformed and bottled in the Intercos Group plant. Thanks to the collaboration between the two companies, the gel will be delivered to the forefront of the current health crisis. Campari Group and Intercos will also handle the logistics of the finished product, to deliver the gel sanitizers where it is most urgently needed.

Bob Kunze- Concewitz, CEO of Campari Group, said: “Aware of sanitizing gel shortage in hospitals and sanitary facilities, we decided to donate an amount of pure alcohol, originally intended for our production lines, as it is the essential raw material for this type of sanitizing liquid. For the production and bottling of the finished product, we joined forces with another Lombard reality that is a world leader in its sector, Intercos Group. Through this initiative, following our contribution to public healthcare institution ASST Fatebenefratelli Sacco in Milan, we wish to further express our commitment to tackling the epidemic by giving support to health workers who are at the forefront of the fight against the Coronavirus emergency in the Lombardy region.”
