The location will be the magnificent rationalist building facing the Ara Pacis and the Mausoleum of Augustus
Bulgari announced that the new ‘Bulgari Hotel Roma‘ is scheduled to open in 2022. It will be strategically located in the central Piazza Augusto Imperatore facing two of the most iconic Roman landmarks, the Ara Pacis and the Mausoleum of Augustus. The location is a stone’s throw from Via del Corso, Via del Babuino, the iconic Spanish Steps, and the signature Bulgari flagship on Via Condotti.
The ‘Bulgari Hotel Roma‘ will occupy a magnificent building design by architect Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo and built between 1936 and 1938. The rationalist structure reveals a monumental modern architecture. This is emphasized by the use of traditional Roman materials and colors, such as ochre Travertine marble and burnt red brick. Antonio Barrera’s frescos, running in the via della Frezza atrium offer different views of the Mausoleum of Augustus counterbalancing the rigorous architecture.
While a 70-square-meter mosaic by Ferruccio Ferrazzi, depicting his interpretation of the Roman foundation myth, decorates the Southern facade.
As for the other Bulgari Hotels in the world, Italian architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel will be in charge of both the architectural project and the interior design of the new Bulgari Hotel Roma. It will count over 100 rooms, most of them suites, a high-end spa with an indoor swimming pool, and a state-of-the-art gym. Michelin-starred chef Niko Romito will curate the ‘Il Ristorante’ restaurant. This, together with ‘The Bulgari Bar’, will be on the top floor to guarantee an unparalleled view of the Eternal City. ‘Bulgari Hotel Roma’ will also be the only one with a Reading Room containing a collection of volumes on jewelry history. Such a library will be open to the guests and the public by appointment only.
