Ortica, the Milanese street art district

Orticanoodles and Or.Me. inaugurated two new murals depicting the Madonnina and the faces of the best Milanese rappers

In via Pitteri, in the Milanese Ortica district, there is a new ‘Madonnina.’ While on a wall in via Corelli, there are the faces of the best Milanese rappers. They were created by the Orticanoodles collective together with the magazine ‘Another scratch in the wall’ and the association Or.Me (Ortica Memoria). The latter is the urban decoration project that aims to redevelop Ortica turning it into the new ‘street art district’ of Milan.

The inauguration of the two new murals was held on Saturday, October 10th in the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Milan, Anna Scavuzzo. It has been a day of celebration for the whole neighborhood. It included a tour of the streets of Ortica organized by Orticanoodles and Or.Me. They presented the street art through which they are trying to redeem an area of the city that had been forgotten for many years.

Alice Cosmai, of Or.Me, explains: “For some time now, in this neighborhood, there has been a real flow of tourists who love murals. Some are Milanese curious people to know more about a piece of the ‘underground’ history of their city. Others are foreigners experts in street art who want to explore the streets of what we hope will become the ‘downtown’ of Milan. For this reason, every Saturday at 3 p.m., we organize guided tours to discover the murals of Ortica. They go from the graffiti along the railway wall, to the actual murals, ending with urban decoration works such as the ‘Madonnina’ and the ‘Muro del Rap’ (editor’s note ‘Wall of Rap’) inaugurated in via Pitteri and via Corelli.”
