The latest limited and numbered edition is born from the collaboration of the two Italian excellences
Tancredi, the historic red of the Sicilian winery Donnafugata, is renewed and wears Dolce & Gabbana’s creativity in a limited and numbered edition of the 2016 vintage with 8,013 bottles. The name Tancredi recalls one of the protagonists of Il Gattopardo (The Leopard), an inexhaustible source of inspiration also for Dolce & Gabbana. In the novel and the film, Tancredi is the favorite nephew of the Prince of Salina because of his charm and ability to adapt to changes. And like him, this wine has a passionate and irrefutably Sicilian character.
For the 2016 Limited Edition, the original blend of Nero d’Avola and Cabernet Sauvignon is enriched with Tannat grapes
The prestigious red was born in 1990 from a blend that was considered quite innovative in those years. However, for the 2016 Limited Edition, the original blend of Nero d’Avola and Cabernet Sauvignon is enriched with Tannat grapes. It is produced from the vines in the Contessa Entellina estate, after maturation in oak and even longer bottle aging. As described by Donnafugata, Tancredi 2016 Limited Edition boasts an intense ruby red color and it combines notes of red fruit, balsamic notes, and delicate hints of licorice and sweet tobacco. On the palate, it unfolds all its enveloping personality with perfectly integrated tannins and long persistence.
Dolce & Gabbana has created the label and packaging of this Limited Edition paying homage to The Leopard. In particular, the reference is to the contrast between tradition and modernity that Tancredi summarizes in itself. The gold, blue, and sinuous lines of Baroque inspiration celebrate the splendor of the aristocracy now in decline. While the red, green, and pointed geometric figures refer to the new revolutionary values that emerged in Sicily after the unification of Italy.
