Picturesque Italian spots turn into fashion sets

From Lake Como to Sicily, going through Florence and Rome, fashion houses cannot resist the beauty offered by the Belpaese

Italy is one of the undisputed leaders in fashion design. If this was not enough, its enchanting views and evocative corners are often used by top names of the industry as locations to present their creations. From commercials to fashion shows, the beauty of this country is the perfect frame for the products of brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, and Dior.

Dolce & Gabbana’s love for their home country encompasses the whole of the Belpaese. They start from Lake Como, where in the past they presented some of their most famous collections with unforgettable images from Villa Olmo, a neoclassical masterpiece. While recently, they shoot the spot for their new fragrance on the shores of the lake in Bellagio. A small village of rare beauty with remarkable architectural heritage, it boasts noble villas, small churches, and enchanting gardens. Whereas for fashion shows, Dolce & Gabbana seem to prefer Sicily. On the island, they presented different collections in Sciacca and the small, baroque village of Palma di Montechiaro, both in the province of Agrigento. For the occasion, they booked the entire historic center of the seaside village of Sciacca to accommodate all their guests. And they turned the narrow streets of the village into catwalks.

Dior, instead, chose the Sammezzano Castle, not far from Florence, to present its Spring-Summer 2021 collection. Maria Grazia Chiuri decided to opt for a short movie directed by Matteo Garrone rather than a traditional fashion show. The set is simply amazing. The 17th-century manor has richly decorated rooms and lush vegetation surrounding the manor. Indeed, it is one of the most fascinating examples of Orientalist architecture in Italy.

Valentino, on the other hand, selected the eternal city for its Haute Couture Fall Winter 2021 collection. The streaming presentation pictured the creations among the precious furnishings, majestic mirrors, and works of art of the Great Hall of Palazzo Colonna. A charming building located in the heart of Rome that has been the residence of many of the most important families of the past centuries.
