Sperlari listed as a historic Made in Italy brand

On the 185th anniversary of its foundation, it receives recognition together with two of its famous brands, Galatine and Saila

Enea Sperlari opened his first shop in Cremona in 1836 and used his surname on the sign. He certainly did not expect that, 185 years later, the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, would have included it in the Register of Historic Brands of National Interest. The Register protects the industrial property of companies that are producers of excellence and historically linked to the national territory. It also promotes them globally. Sperlari, now a leader in the Italian confectionery market, enters the Register together with Galatine and Saila, the brands of its two most famous products.

Sperlari has always created its delicacies in Italy. Its historical plant is still in Cremona where takes place the production of Galatine, the milk candy invented in 1956 and produced with 100% Italian milk. Silvi Marina (Termano) is the plant where Italian licorice and mint arrive to be turned into the famous Saila, which delight palates since 1937. While other two plant are in Gordona (Sondrio) and San Pietro in Casale (Bologna).

“All our brands are part of the history of this country. They have accompanied generations of Italians throughout their lives and have always been produced in our four plants in Italy with extensive use of Italian raw materials: Sperlari’s fruit, Galatine’s milk, and Saila’s mint and licorice. Becoming part of the Register of Historic Brands of National Interest is, therefore, a great source of pride for us,” commented Piergiorgio Burei, CEO of Sperlari. Adding that, “Being included in the Register on the occasion of our 185th birthday is a further recognition of our work to enhance Italian tradition, combined with the ability to innovate, strengthening Sperlari’s role as an ambassador of Made in Italy food products in the world.”
