Maserati celebrates a golden era of motorsport with the launch of two special editions of its supercar MC20: Icona and Leggenda. These limited editions, inspired by the legendary MC12, pay homage to the Trident brand’s success in international competitions.
The Glorious Legacy of the MC12
The MC12, produced in just 50 units, marked an era of victories for Maserati, achieving 27 wins in the FIA GT Championships between 2004 and 2010. This legendary model, derived from the MC12 Stradale, was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and powered by a potent Ferrari-derived V12 engine. With a top speed of 330 km/h and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, the MC12 remains one of the fastest Maseratis ever produced.
Maserati MC20 Icona and Leggenda: The Design
The special series MC20 Icona and Leggenda will be produced in a limited run of just 20 units each. The MC20 Icona features a livery that recalls the MC12 Stradale, with a combination of Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale colors. The bodywork is enhanced by the Maserati Fuoriserie logo and the Italian flag, while silver hubcaps with the blue Trident logo and blue brake calipers complete the exclusive look.
The MC20 Leggenda, on the other hand, is inspired by the MC12 GT1 of the Vitaphone Racing team, featuring a Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte livery. Details include Tridente wheels in Glossy Black, a yellow Trident logo on the grille, doors, and C-pillar, and black-painted brake calipers.
Interiors and Technology
The interiors of the MC20 Icona and Leggenda are as impressive as the exterior. Both models are equipped with racing monocoque seats with the Trident hand-embroidered on the headrests. The sophisticated Sonus faber audio system, carbon fiber package, electronic limited-slip differential (E-LSD), suspension lifter, and blind spot & rear cross path detection systems further enrich the cabin.
Exceptional Performance
Despite the aesthetic and comfort customizations, the heart of the MC20 Icona and Leggenda remains unchanged. Both are equipped with the 3-liter V6 Nettuno engine, capable of delivering 630 HP. This powerful engine, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and a top speed of over 325 km/h.
Celebration of an Icon
The launch of the MC20 Icona and Leggenda is not only a tribute to the glorious MC12 but also a celebration of the twentieth anniversary of Maserati’s return to racing. The MC12, launched first in road version and later victorious in GT championships, inspired the Maserati MC20, introduced in 2020 as the first model equipped with the innovative V6 Nettuno engine.
