The Bolgheri DOC celebrates 30 years of success with the spectacular “Cena dei Mille”.
The highlight was the enchanting “Cena dei Mille,” organized by the Bolgheri Consortium along the famous Viale dei Cipressi, immortalized by the poetry of Giosuè Carducci. A kilometer-long table hosted over 1,000 guests from around the world, gathered to celebrate this unique region. Illuminated cypress trees and a candlelit dinner created a magical and unforgettable atmosphere, symbolizing a well-established tradition that began in 2019 for the 25th anniversary of the denomination and reached its third edition this year in honor of its 30th anniversary.
Bolgheri, a region born from the vision of Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, creator of the legendary Sassicaia, is today one of the most prestigious wine-producing areas in the world. The beauty of this land, with its vineyards kissed by the sea’s light, was already captured in 1874 by Carducci, the first Italian to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1906, who celebrated Bolgheri’s untouched nature in his poem “Davanti San Guido.” The Viale dei Cipressi, a national Italian monument, was created in the 19th century by Count Guido Alberto della Gherardesca, who chose the cypress trees for their resistance to buffalo attacks, making this road one of the most iconic symbols worldwide.
Bolgheri’s uniqueness lies not only in its scenic beauty but also in its wines. Sassicaia, Masseto, Ornellaia, Guado al Tasso, Messorio, Paleo, Argentiera, Ca’ Marcanda, and Grattamacco are just a few of the great names that have brought Bolgheri to shine on the global wine scene. These wine masterpieces consistently rank among the most sought-after in the world, according to Wine-Searcher, and are highly valued at international auctions, playing a key role in the secondary wine market, as indicated by Liv-Ex, the sector’s benchmark.
The Bolgheri denomination generates one of the highest economic values in Italy, with an average bottle price of €21 and an annual production worth €150 million. With 1,365 hectares of registered DOC vineyards, 40% of which are organically farmed, the area produces around 7 million bottles annually, primarily divided between Bolgheri Rosso (64%), Bolgheri Superiore and Sassicaia (19%), Bolgheri Vermentino and Bianco (12%), and Bolgheri Rosato (5%). Bolgheri is not just a symbol of quality and sophistication but a cornerstone of the renaissance of Italian wine.
