The 2024 edition of 50 Top Pizza World has crowned Una Pizza Napoletana by Anthony Mangieri in New York as the best pizzeria in the world, reaffirming the growing influence of Neapolitan-style pizza globally. While the idea of the world’s best pizza being made in the United States might raise some eyebrows among Italian pizza lovers, it’s clear that the art of pizza has transcended national borders. Mangieri, an Italian-American who has been passionate about pizza since his youth, has distinguished himself with his dedication to preserving Neapolitan pizza traditions, despite being based in the Big Apple.
This year’s podium reflects the cosmopolitan nature of the ranking. Sharing second place are Francesco Martucci with his “I Masanielli” in Caserta and Diego Vitagliano with his pizzeria in Naples. Both pizzaioli are well-known to those who follow the Italian version of the 50 Top Pizza ranking, having already garnered numerous accolades in the past.
In third place is The Pizza Bar on 38th in Tokyo, an exclusive spot within the luxurious Mandarin Oriental in Ginza. With only eight seats, this small restaurant offers an intimate, refined experience where pizza is served in a boutique fine-dining setting.
A special award this year was given to Giorgia Caporuscio, another New York-based pizzaiola, marking an important recognition of the increasing presence of women in the pizza world.
