Pininfarina, a renowned icon of Italian design, has created the new livery for the Frecce Tricolori’s latest aircraft, the M-346, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of Italy’s aerobatic team. This collaboration blends the elegance of Italian design with the advanced engineering of the Leonardo-manufactured M-346, which is set to replace the aging MB-339 jets that have served the Frecce Tricolori for over four decades.
The unveiling took place at Istrana Air Base, coinciding with the team’s return from a successful North American tour. The M-346, with its superior thrust and agility, was chosen for its ability to meet the demanding requirements of large formation aerobatics, a hallmark of the Frecce Tricolori’s performances. Initially, the M-345 was considered for this role, but the M-346 ultimately proved more suitable due to its enhanced performance capabilities.
Pininfarina’s livery design reflects the theme of a “tricolore revival,” embodying the fluidity and dynamism of flight while maintaining a distinctive look that resonates with the elegance and precision that both the design firm and the Frecce Tricolori represent. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and the celebration of Italian national pride.
