Genoa International Boat Show 2024: a showcase of innovation and design

The 64th edition of the Genoa Boat Show 2024 (September 19 to 24), is marking the return of Italy’s premier nautical event to its historic venue, the Palasport of Genoa, newly renovated by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop.

The event promises to highlight the latest in maritime innovation, sustainability, and cutting-edge design, positioning itself as a global reference point for the yachting and boating sectors.

With over 1,050 exhibitors and more than 1,030 boats on display across 220,000 square meters—an increase of 5,000 square meters from 2023—the 2024 show emphasizes the growing importance of open-air spaces, with 85% of the exhibition areas outdoors. Among the standout events is the Design Innovation Award, celebrating its fifth year. This award honors groundbreaking projects across ten categories, with special prizes for Innovation, Career Achievement, and Talent, recognizing those that embody originality, sustainability, and social impact.

The Design Innovation Award ceremony was scheduled for September 20 at the Palazzo della Borsa in Genoa, with Maria Porro, president of Salone del Mobile.Milano, once again chairing the jury. Porro’s involvement highlights the synergy between the nautical and furniture design industries, both of which are heavily invested in innovative materials and sustainable practices.

At the opening of Salone del Mobile.Milano, Porro spoke of the increasing overlap between the two sectors: “Boats are like homes on water… Nautical design has seen incredible evolution, especially with the contribution of renowned architects.” This reflects the broader integration of Made in Italy values, blending cutting-edge technology with artisanal craftsmanship, which is also a hallmark of the Genoa Boat Show.

In tandem with the growth of the event, the Palasport will serve as a modern icon, featuring a new logo inspired by the stylized shape of a ship’s bow. According to Marina Stella, General Manager of Confindustria Nautica, the combination of sustainability and innovation has become a defining theme for the industry, driving technological and stylistic advancements that keep the sector at the forefront of global trends.

The 2024 edition will not only display over 100 new releases and 30 premieres, but also emphasize eco-friendly advancements in propulsion systems and materials, reinforcing the industry’s commitment to preserving the marine environment.

The Genoa Boat Show stands as a testament to Italy’s leadership in both the nautical and design worlds, offering a dynamic platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and celebrating the very best of maritime innovation.
