Lamborghini has unveiled the new Urus SE plug-in hybrid, the perfect embodiment of the philosophy “more performance with fewer emissions.” The vehicle, referred to as a Super SUV, proved its worth during a series of intensive tests at the Nardò track (Lecce), navigating sandy paths, drifts, and the winding Ionian roads to Gallipoli, also highlighting its ability to travel in electric mode through historic centers, such as within the restricted traffic zone (ZTL) of Copertino Castle.
New design and cutting-edge technology
The design of the new Urus SE (with a starting price of €263,000) is characterized by softer lines compared to the previous version. The front hood is more sculpted and rounded, while the air intakes have been enlarged for greater aerodynamics. The slimmer front headlights and the redesigned rear end, featuring a new license plate placement, give the car a modern and refined look.
Inside, Lamborghini has retained the sporty setup but with a larger 12.3” central display and a clear, easy-to-read digital dashboard. The true technological heart of the car remains the Tamburo, the central control system featuring two jet-like levers: one for selecting the six driving modes (Strada, Sport, Corsa, Sand, Terra, Snow) and the other to activate electric driving, with three additional modes (Hybrid, Recharge, and Performance) to optimize power and battery management.
Performance and sustainability
Electrification hasn’t compromised performance—quite the opposite. The Urus SE boasts 800 HP, with the ability to drive in complete silence in electric mode. Despite the added weight from the electric motor and batteries, the vehicle remains agile and fun to handle in corners. This SUV confirms Lamborghini’s excellence in combining high performance with environmental responsibility, paving the way for a future of low-emission supercars.
The Urus SE’s performance is not limited to engine power. During tests on dirt roads and sand at the Nardò technical center, it impressed with its ability to maintain control even in the most extreme conditions. The suspension varies by up to 7.5 cm, adapting to rough surfaces and ensuring stability. In Corsa mode, the suspension lowers by 1.5 cm, making the extra weight almost imperceptible. Additionally, despite its off-road power and performance, the Urus SE offers remarkable driving comfort, as long as you avoid opting for the 23-inch wheels.
The Urus is already a best-seller for Lamborghini, with over 6,000 units sold and an increasingly younger customer base: 40% of buyers are under 40, and 13% are women. The new Urus SE, with its hybrid-electric features and updated design, aims to further strengthen this audience.
