Located in an area largely untouched by urban overdevelopment, where you can still appreciate the ancient and glorious past of Rome almost without distraction, the 47 Boutique Hotel stands just steps away from the Circus Maximus, the Roman Forum, and the Mouth of Truth. A contemporary-styled hotel in both interior and decor, it is strategically positioned near many tourist attractions. The Tiber River flows peacefully just a few dozen meters from the hotel, and nearby bus and metro stops make the 47 a great “base camp” for staying in Rome, especially during the October sun and mild weather. Guests can easily explore the city’s tourist and historical offerings.
Inside the 47, the modern and engaging atmosphere of the furnishings can be enjoyed across all five floors. Each room is designed with unique pieces from the 1960s and 1970s, from a signed Pelé jersey to original prints, signed photographs, or iconic items like the famous Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter or limited-edition Bialetti Moka pots. Themed floors create a special experience, surrounded by history, art, design, iconic personalities, and fashion. It’s more than just a stay—it’s a journey into beauty, mostly Italian.
Notably, the 47, which in 2024 celebrated its 20th anniversary, is the only hotel in Rome certified by Green Globe, a recognition of its commitment to environmental, inclusive, and social issues.
47 Circus Roof Garden: dining surrounded by beauty
“Surrounded by beauty” is perhaps the most fitting phrase to capture the essence of the 47 Circus Roof Garden, the panoramic rooftop located on the sixth floor, offering a sweeping view of Rome. Open for lunch, aperitif, and dinner, the rooftop is accessible to hotel guests and outside visitors looking to enjoy a meal or a drink while admiring the Eternal City from above. The bar offers an interesting selection, with an original, curated, and contemporary drink menu. In classic 47 style, there’s a range of house cocktails, classics, wines, and spirits—something for every taste and time of day. The “circus” theme, inspired by the nearby Circus Maximus, is reflected in the small Ferris wheel served with drinks, accompanied by light bites such as hummus, pickled vegetables, salmon and cucumber, and focaccia with mortadella, a symbol of Rome. It’s a perfect way to sip and snack while enjoying, why not, a Roman sunset.
And the food? Since last October, Chef Maurizio Lustrati has been in charge, offering guests—primarily international visitors from the U.S. and Northern Europe—a menu that spans Italy, from north to south, with dishes featuring vegetables, meat, and fish. The cuisine is typically Italian, as the chef enjoys exploring beyond the classic Roman staples (which are still on the menu), from carbonara to amatriciana and gricia, to dishes inspired by Sicily, Tuscia in Viterbo, Campania, lower Lazio, and Tuscany, to name just a few.
For starters, there’s the classic Tuscan pappa al pomodoro with Sicilian avocado, olive powder, and ricotta salata, or beef carpaccio with apples, chanterelle mushrooms, and provolone del Monaco cream, a cheese from Campania. Among the first courses, you can taste the tagliolini with Tyrrhenian prawns, Piennolo tomatoes, and chives, or the earthy flavors of pumpkin-filled ravioli with Tuscia’s “Fiocco,” chestnuts, and Cesanese (a Lazio red wine). The menu also includes beet risotto with sheep’s blue cheese and horseradish, or pappardelle stuffed with mountain Parmesan cream with sausage and mushroom sauce. Roman classics, beloved by tourists and locals alike, are also featured, while the second courses continue to alternate between sea and land. There’s tataki-style amberjack with rosemary cannellini bean cream, beef fillet in a bread crust with mushrooms and prosciutto, confit cod fillet, or Nebrodi pork belly, a Sicilian specialty. As for desserts, the journey continues from Naples to Veneto with orange baba and marron glacé, and the “Inzuppamisù,” an original version of tiramisu, which is a must-have. There’s also pears with ricotta and chocolate, and dark chocolate with ginger, rounding off the sweet offerings.
For lunch, from Monday to Friday, there’s a lighter menu featuring club sandwiches, burgers, savory pancakes, Niçoise salad, caprese, and more—perfect for a quicker meal without sacrificing a relaxing break with a breathtaking view.
47 Hortus: The Hotel’s olive oil from the province of Viterbo
With a strong focus on sustainability and a commitment to quality suppliers and raw materials, the 47 Hortus project was born. Located on a 4-hectare estate with over 400 olive trees in the Marturanum Regional Park (in Tuscia), this land is dedicated to producing olive oil and harvesting organic vegetables. The project’s flagship product is its extra virgin olive oil, a predominantly Leccino blend, known for its sharp yet delicate flavor—a valuable addition to the hotel’s culinary services, especially in a time when fake EVO oil scandals are unfortunately rampant in Italian restaurants.
